A topographic map represents Earth's three dimensional surface in two dimensions.  Topographic maps show elevation. These are important for geologists, hikers, campers, and others who are interested. Longitude is the distance north and south of the equator. Latitude is  the distance east and west of the prime meridian. Both are measured in degrees.
